Hi, every time I have a new student I introduce them to the value, convenience and power of Audio Books to improve their speech clarity – effectively your own automated voice coach: when you want, at a time of purely your own convenience and allowing you to multitask in your busy working life.

Sure, listening can’t teach you what I teach:  the essential mouth structures inside the mouth for a clear elocution & an internationally understood public speaking voice, but, it definitely augments my teaching and has always been an essential part of my own personal process when learning a different accent.

I would literally brainwash myself with this accent: going to sleep with accent samples on a loop so that I continued to hear the sounds even in my deep sleep – it works! It really does and earned me a lot of money in adverts, games, cartoons etc.

So, I am handing this info over to you and I think the best & most pleasurable source of this valuable material is either the carefully picked dramatisations on Radio 4 that I regularly blog about, or specific actors/authors reading books that are available on Amazon Audible.

Amazon Audible is definitely a value for money product if clearer speech is what you want and you want to improve your success rate with your voice coach – whom hopefully is me or about to be! 🙂

You can download the app for free so it’s handy on your mobile and once you’ve downloaded the book it’s your voice coach on the tube, in the car, when you can’t sleep when you can sleep (!) when you have to clear the kitchen (ugh) etc. Suddenly the worst jobs are bearable and even an excuse to carry on with the book!

The first month is free but then it’s £7.99 pcm, with only a monthly contract too, so you can always cancel if you don’t like it, but, for that £8 you can have as many voice samples (& so a varied amount of free voice coaching!) as you like, because once you have listened to a book if you don’t like it you can return it and swap it for a new one! And, you can do this as many times as you like as long it is within one year of the purchase date! How amazing is that?!

Also very importantly, often audio books can be very expensive as it takes hours to record BUT your £8 pcm gives you ‘one credit’ which can buy an audio book worth up to and even over £36!  So pick wisely 🙂

My next blog will be a list of good voices to put into the search box on the app or website so we can make sure your automated voice coach has the correct voice for you to learn!

Bye for now..
